Which formula should you trust?
Use the exponential formula (70 × kg^0.75) for kittens under 2 kg and cats over 10 kg, where the linear shortcut drifts furthest from measured energy expenditure. The linear formula ((kg × 30) + 70) is fine as a rough mental estimate for a typical 2–10 kg adult cat.
